Angela shared her story, "On June 13th, Jared and I with our kiddos, Aubrey, 4 and Tanner, 9, boarded a plane to Montana to visit friends, a vacation that was a year in the making. At 1am we get a call telling us our garage caught fire. One of our neighbors Jason Wallace, just happened to be driving home and looked over at our house and he noticed smoke coming from under garage door. He called 911! He, along with the help of our neighbors, pretty much saved the whole neighborhood. Before the fire fighters got there, two retired firefighters Darrel Brant and Tim Callen and active fire fighter Anthony Dawson broke into the garage and fought the fire with a garden hose! We would have lost everything, maybe even our house if it wasn’t for them! We are truly grateful! Needless to say, the phone call was so shocking. We were so worried and had many questions. Our CNC machine is in the garage which is how we run our machining business. We felt helpless not knowing how bad it was and being a few states away. We were sent pictures of the damage but we didn’t fully know the extent. We knew that there was really nothing we could do until the insurance went in to do their assessment, so we continued our vacation trying not to think of the destruction and damage.
When we got home our hearts dropped while sifting through melted plastic from our storage bins, seeing bunt pictures and heirloom items that were destroyed. It’s very hard me to ask for funds to help our family out. I know that there are so many people that have lost their entire homes, even people have lost loved ones and I can’t even imagine how they cope after that. I know people think that our garage just caught on fire but it wasn’t just a garage with stuff in it, it was our home business, our livelihood. It was also where we stored most of all our family’s memories. As time goes on our family is starting to feel a financial burden as our machine shop is at a total stand still. We really need to raise some money to move our 9000 pound machine out of the garage and rent a place to store it. Then we can see if it still has a heart beat and can be restored. It would be amazing to see if our business could be saved. It will take at least $5000 to move the machine to a storage facility in town and then we have to pay to restore it. I don’t even know how much that will cost. It’s going to be about $2000 just to rent a hazard material dumpster and start sifting through the remains of the fire.
We had insurance however, when we called them to collect the out-of-country third-party insurance stepped in along with all of the fine print. We were completely blindsided and got the heart-breaking news that nothing is covered. Most of our holiday decorations for every season were destroyed. Everything from our kids pre-school hand prints to our baby blankets, childhood stockings, things that could never been replaced, and Jared's skate boards, sleeping bags, fishing gear, Jared's power tools, and a whole freezer full of meat, ugh! God, we love our meat... the list goes on and on."
So here is the deal: anyone who knows this humble little family and my cousin Angela (Pilacelli) Faustino knows that her heart pours love and support. She has always been like a little sister to me and so kindhearted. She is the one usually raising funds for her community or for other peoples kids, for schools or for the animal shelters. This is also the third Pilacelli family affected by fire in less than two years, it hits us in the gut! It is time we bond together and help these giving people in return. Any little bit will help and sharing this fundraiser will also help. The fire was started by a faulty cord on the freezer and then melted into the outlet. This means that insurance will not cover the equipment for their machining business because it was NOT the cause of the fire. They literally are out everything and will not get any compensation. So let's see what we can do for them to get them back on their feet and their business up and running. Thank you truly. Melissa Pilacelli Scimio
