To Angel's family and friends:
6 weeks ago while teaching, Angel had an episode of unexplained numbness and tingling in the left side of his face and body, resulting in a hospital visit. After an MRI was performed, a small mass was found in his right brain hemisphere. While awaiting more tests, his symptoms escalated over the past weeks with a loss of his sense of taste, bodily numbness and ultimately, a full blown seizure while he was at work on October, 7.
After being taken to the hospital, an MRI test showed the mass in his right brain significantly larger.
Surgery was performed on October, 9, and it went well.
This is where Angel needs all of you to help his recovery by contributing whatever you can financially.
He has no insurance and works as a freelancer.
A procedure of this kind costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. But a successful surgery is just the first step in the long process of recovering your ability to be a fully functional and independent person again. When a brain is operated on, there are many essential services that a patient must receive post op:
* Speech therapy: to work on slurring and possible trouble swallowing.
* Occupational therapy: there are tasks that we take for granted in performing automatically, like touching a finger to the nose, or transferring an object from one hand to the other, that a person after brain surgery will have to learn anew. And it's hard to do.
* Physical therapy: there will be balance issues, dizziness, weakness and mini seizures as the brain continues to heal.
Knowing that you need brain surgery is frightening and overwhelming emotionally. You must avoid stress to promote healing. It's very hard to do knowing the colossal amount of money the surgery and subsequent treatments require. Then there are basic living expenses which have to be met. It is very hard to do if you are unable to work, and medication and the above rehabilitation services are of utmost importance to a successful and complete healing.
PLEASE HELP ANGEL GET WELL! EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!
This is a time of great challenges. Together, by our joint financial contributions, we can help offset some of these costs and help ease some of the great stress were he to face it alone.
Thank you for your donations, and for giving from the heart!
