Hello Angels, my name is Gerald Jordan who has been involved with refugee resettlement programs for over 10 years. Rufus Paschal arriving from Nigeria 9 years ago at our parish St.Patrick's in downtown Toronto with nothing. Where he comes from as a Catholic, the church is the community and he approached the priest for help. They approached me because of my experience. Two weeks later I listen to his story. Rufus's story is as a Catholic, he stood up in Nigeria and spoke out for Catholics. His neighbour was brutally murdered because she was Catholic and Rufus asked for justice and than he became the target. He was harassed, imprisoned, and put on a hit list. When he got out of jail, his lawyer told him to leave the country. He didn't want to especially without his family, wife and four children, but there was no option. He had lost his successful business. He came to Canada and that's when his journey started here 9 years ago. Rufus amazed me how much faith that he had. He believed it was in God's hands. He was also the type of individual who didn't want fish but to learn how to fish. So we showed Rufus direction and he put a roof over his head, food on the table, and supported his family back home. I knew top immigration lawyers in Canada and put him in contact with them and he paid for everything. His first attempt for permanent residence was denied and after his excellent lawyer on appeal, permanent residence was approved which he paid for from working. Next was to get his family over on a family reunification visa. During this time, his sister in Nigeria who was Catholic had gasoline poured over her and set on fire because she was Catholic. She died in hospital. He help pay for her medical costs and burial but he couldn't go back to Nigeria because he would be killed. The process for the visa for his family took a long time but finally it has been granted. They must be out of Nigeria by October 15th. Hopefully arriving September 24th. After nine years, his last chapter can be written and finally see his family. The last obstacle is the plane tickets. They will cost $6000.00. I know if Rufus had time he would raise the money and he's working harder to make money but time is the essence. So Angels if you can help in anyways, please give what ever you can.
