When I originally started doing dialysis at the clinic. At the moment I do dialysis at home
Dear Friends,
Many of you not be aware that, sadly I am experiencing kidney failure. Two years ago I was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and in order to survive I must be connected to a dialysis machine for 7 to 8 hours every night, 7 days a week. I must tell you that dialysis is not a long term solution. My health will continually decline and dialysis will not be enough.
There are more than 114,000 people on the organ transplant wait-list, with nearly 95,000 waiting for a kidney. The average wait time on transplant wait-list is about 8 years, while some people on the list will receive a kidney from a deceased donor the vast majority will not. I have been very lucky to be that I was put in a waiting list for a kidney transplant.
I'm currently Registered in Forth Worth Texas, transplant list. I have been on the list for almost two years. The wait time in Texas is 2 to 3 years. I recently received good news that I could be called within 6 months to 1 years depending how fast the list moves
Once I get called for a transplant, I have to drop everything and fly to Texas, be at the hospital with in a few hours. I won't be able to planned anything. Once I have the transplant, I won't be able to work for 3 to 4 months due to recovery process.
I will have to relocate out of state for 3 months, I either have to stay in a hotel or Airbnb. I will also need to hire a caretaker 24/7 the first 2 months During this time, I will me under a medication that makes my immune system weak, in order to prevent my body from rejecting the kidney.. I will need assistance around the clock during recovery. They will need to help me with medication, cooking food, and driving me to My hospital appointments 3 times a week. All this will put me in a financial burden, not just for me but my family that is Also has to take time off from work to help me out.
I'm writing this to ask for help, any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Here are some of the estimated cost that I will have
- 3 months Airbnb $3,400 per month ( $12,000 with taxes )
- 2 months with 24/7 caretaker staying with me $25,000 estimated cost
- 3 months of car rental $2,500 to $3,000
- Cost of Groceries, since I have to be on a strict diet
- $800 each month for two months of Medication ( My insurance won't start covering the medication until the 3rd month after transplant)
- Even though I have insurance, I still will be responsible for a portion of the total cost. That could range from $30,000 to $50,000.
The estimated financial burden will be around $60,000 to $70,000.
This letter is not for you to give me your kidney. It is a simple request for you to understand my story and help spread the word about how living donations can save my life and lives of many other .
