A New Start

My little brother Miki has a warm, energetic, and charismatic soul.  His big, toothy smile and bright blue eyes win you over within moments of meeting him.  I haven’t seen those beautiful bright eyes in a full seven years, when Miki was sent to prison in North Carolina.  In September 2017, he will be released back into society.

I'm appealing to you, in our friends, family and community network, to help us with providing Miki an opportunity to succeed when most men in his situation fail.    We will commit our time and best efforts to support him in resettlement, finding work, and learning how to live in the outside world again.  However, we need help to fund the basics for a 33-year old man who has lost everything.

Miki grew up Huck Finn style, in the heart of Washington apple country, nestled in a beautiful remote valley nurtured by a glacier-fed river.  Sadly, despite picture-book worthy surroundings, his closest family suffered tremendously from addiction and mental health issues.  Miki did not escape these afflictions and paid an enormous price when the prison doors slammed shut.  Miki's choices in life cost him his freedom, his marriage, a step son, and seven of arguably, the best years of his life.

Miki has strength and determination, and has spent his time well.  While in prison, he attended college level classes, worked jobs, and kept up a grueling physical conditioning routine.  More importantly, Miki stepped out of his comfort zone to challenge himself spiritually, academically, and emotionally.  He has taken steps to repair damaged relationships and to heal old wounds.  He paid his debt to society, and has worked hard to become a better human being.

Funding secured through this account will be applied to getting Miki back on his feet.  He literally has no money, no clothes, no furniture, no transportation, nothing.  What he does have is a loving family willing to give him that one last chance at life to become a valuable, contributing member of society.  Our family has limited means, and while we can give him our time and support, we are seeking your help with funding his successful reintegration.  Please give what you can so that Miki will have a real chance to overcome his past, and grow a future beyond incarceration.
