Anesthesia in Cambodia/Laos
Donation protected
Hi Friends! I am 1 of 3 Pitt nurse anesthesia students selected to give anesthesia at Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I'll also be making a stop at Lao Friends Hospital for Children in Laos. As you know, I love traveling and volunteering on international medical mission trips so I am thrilled to be chosen for this opportunity! We cover the costs of the trip ourselves (flights + accommodations + 1 credit class + vaccines + costs for our professor= ~$4k-5k) so I created this page to see if I could help offset some of the cost. Please don't feel obligated to donate but each dollar donated is REALLY appreciated! I have been living solely off of loans for the past 2+ years so I really am grateful for any contribution. You know I'll find a way to repay you when I get my first job! (10 months until graduation! Yay!)
Anesthesia-related tasks I will be performing abroad:
-Regional blocks without ultrasound, using landmark anatomy
-Reviewing case presentations/studies on pediatric anesthesia
-Coming up with my own anesthetic plan for each patient without an anesthesiologist present (sometimes up to 15 cases/day!)
-Developing a standardized anesthetic plan for tonsillectomies & adenoidectomies with my 2 classmates
-Simulations for crisis management
-Rounds and daily debriefing
We will be volunteering through Health Volunteers Organizations: https://hvousa.org/ourwork/programs/anesthesia/
I'll be traveling 2/26/19- 3/31/19. I am hoping this experience makes me more a skilled, more confident CRNA someday. I'm also hoping I can exercise self-control with all the delicious SE Asian food so I don't get explosive diarrhea! Haha! So if you can't donate, please say a prayer for me-- that I can provide good care, learn a few things, and stay safe & healthy! Thank you!
Love,
Gilly
