As many of you know in 2012 Andy began a survival journey. Because of an infection and diabetes his kidney’s failed forcing him to remain on dialysis for the last 9 years to keep him alive. During that 9 years in California Andy had to work to lose weight to be active on the transplant list. He has finally hit that weight loss goal!
We have started our transplant journey here in Tennessee while Andy continues dialysis 3-4 times a week. Andy was accepted as a patient at Vanderbilt Transplant hospital in Nashville, TN. He has a few more test to complete but once he is approved by the transplant committee he will moved to the top of the transplant list as it starts on your first day of dialysis treatments, 12/12/2012. That means that we could get a call at any time.
It has been suggested by his social workers that we begin a fundraising event to help raise enough money to pay for the uncovered medical expenses. This is a very expensive medical treatment and will likely drain our savings. The funds raised will be used to offset the part of the surgery that insurance will not cover, medications that will need to be taken before and after his transplant. We will also be required to travel to and from Nashville for several months once his transplant is complete.
We are reaching out to our family, friends and strangers to see if you could help support us during this uncertain and exciting time! Andy’s health is always declining and this surgery will be a whole new beginning for him. Please keep Andy, Kendall and I in your thoughts as we navigate thru our next steps.
We miss and love all you guys!
