Andy Mosquera and Family

Caesar Mosquera is a rare combination of human being.  He is undoubtedly one of the hardest working people you can find yourself around and is undoubtedly one of the kindest, and warm-hearted.

Caesar is from the mountainous town of Cuenca, Ecuador. He came to the United States in 1992. Landing in New York City, he worked every day for over a calendar year to repay the financiers that funded his resettlement to the U.S. All the while attending night school to learn the English language. Oh, and shared a studio apartment with five other people during that time.

After living in Philadelphia for several years and breaking into the construction industry, he moved to Minnesota and settled into a career of paving and road construction.
Following years of working his way up from a laborer position, he has become one of his company's most consistent and reliable paver operators.

Caesar supports his wife, three children and his father. They reside in Golden Valley, MN.

Two weeks ago tragedy struck. Caesar's son, Andy age 8 (pictured), began to have breathing issues. After those issues continued to worsen, Andy's parents decided to bring him to the hospital. En route to the hospital, Andy collapsed and quit breathing. Andy suffers from muscular dystrophy, a group of inherited diseases that damage and weaken your muscles over time.

Andy is currently in hospital care in Ecuador in an unresponsive state and is in need of medical equipment to both breathe and ingest food. When Andy collapsed, his lungs failed and he suffered a heart attack. Andy had flatlined for several minutes before being revived at the hospital. Andy's brain did not receive proper oxygen and blood flow and he may have suffered permanent brain damage.

The Mosquera's medical bills are quickly piling up and have exceeded $100,000 in a mere two weeks.

He is currently in the process of communicating the situation with his insurance provider.  Regardless of the uncertainty of whether coverage will be accepted given the circumstances of the medical situation taking place outside of the U.S., the out-of-pocket medical bills will be significant.

It is likely that Caesar may have to return to Minnesota alone to return to work to provide for his family and to continue holding his benefits and healthcare through his job.

At this point he may have no choice but to leave his family in Ecuador as the paving season nears its start in early Spring.

There are many things that remain uncertain at this point.

But there are a few things that I am certain about.

I am certain that this man has been overly willing and eager to help other's in need.

I am certain that this man carries a positive and brightening attitude that is contagious to those around him on a daily basis. Even when he's had every reason not to.

I am certain that this man has worked his tail off to provide a better life for his family.

I am certain that this is a great man, and a great family. And they are in need of help.

If you, or someone you know has experience in a similar situation or can help provide any form of professional help or knowledge in any way, it would be eternally appreciated.
