Andy Godek Lung & Colon Cancer

We are raising money for our friend and colleague Andy who is battling two kinds of cancer in his body right now. We all know Andy as an optimist and extremely hard worker. This is a temporary setback, but one that will take many months to overcome. Andy's message in his own words follows:
Hello,
My name is Andy Godek.
I am now facing some serious challenges and have been encouraged to appeal for support via GoFundMe.
In February 2018, I received a Dual Diagnosis of Adenocarcinoma.
Specifically, Cancer in my Left Lung as well as in my rectal cavity.
Admittedly, I was at first, almost devastated by this Life Altering news.
However, I am absolutely certain that there is no realistic goal that is insurmountable as long as I have a clear understanding of the facts, options, actions to be taken, positive mindset, & network of support needed to attain the desired outcome.
“When I stopped living in the Problem, and began living in the Solution, the problem went away”
I have successfully applied these concepts many times in my life.
May 21,1997 - present. Continuously Clean and Sober
Attended Blue Hills Hospital inpatient program for substance abuse education and recovery.
Embraced the AA 12 steps program of recovery, and since intuitively apply these in all areas of mylife.
January 9, 2007- present Smoke Free
Used Chantix to quit smoking after seeing my Mom suffer from emphysema that eventually ended her life. ( Literally, Her last ask of me was “ Andrew, Promise me you will quit smoking so you
won’t have to go through this” )
I don’t mind saying, that now and every time I share of that moment, I tear up.
There is no greater Love and source of Hope than that of a Mother.
I am pleased to say, that thanks to the wonderful network of caregivers and providers associated with the Yale New Haven, Smilow Cancer Center , I am already off to a great start.
Consider this, on February 28, I was told that I had lung cancer and on April 12 I had a successful Lobectomy of my lower left lung, and wedge resection of my upper left lung, leaving only a small amount of stage 2 lymph node with cancer cells (curable with follow up Chemo, Radiation)
The next steps are mainly concerning the healing of my surgeries for the lungs 3 months of Radiation/ Chemotherapeutic treatment of the rectal area to be followed by surgery anda couple of months of healing time before returning “ Cancer Free “ to work.
As there are quite a few expenses now to satisfy, all contributions , no matter the amount, will make a big difference. Thank You all for your support in any way, and Prayers are much appreciated.
