In Loving Memory of Andy Burns (1988–2025)
Andy passed away June 18th, surrounded by love that poured out of his hospital room. 373 days from when he was first diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma, 216 days from his daughter's 2nd birthday, 92 days from the birth of his son, and 3 days after Father’s Day.
If the unwavering will to keep fighting, despite what ever odds, and any amount of pain, to continue to be there for the people he loved, was all he needed to survive, Andy would. I am certain of that. Sadly, his cancer was simply too aggressive and the tools we had to fight it, not advanced enough. While the anguish of this loss is unimaginable, deep down, we knew this day was coming and are grateful for the time we did get.
Andy’s high school yearbook quote at Bishop Ireton said, “To have a friend, you have to be a friend,” and I think that speaks to the way Andy lived his life. There was never a question that Andy would be there, by your side, if you needed help. He truly was the best of us. I have no doubt that he would want us, to not take for granted what we have, and to be the people we strive to be, for those around us, going forward.
We get people in life for a certain period of time, and we’re just really lucky that they were here with us, that they were ours for that time, and that we got to be theirs too. The love we share lives on in the present moment—with us, always. Andy Burns Continues (ABC)—his light shines on through all of us, in every gentle touch, every shared smile, and every moment we choose love.
