The call came in Monday morning, "Andrew is hurt and in the hospital".
Andrew, a hard working CW/Apprentice with Sullivan Solar Power, was enjoying the weekend with friends at the beach when he accidentally slipped off his truck bed. Andrew unfortunately was not comforted by the softness of the sand, but welcomed by a piece of wood with nails protruding out. The nails pierced his skin, severing his arteries and damaging the nerves in his arm. If it wasn’t for the quick response of Andrew’s friends he might have bled out. He was quickly rushed to the hospital where doctors had to cut Andrew's arm from wrist to shoulder, to repair the artery and re-connect as much damaged tissue as possible. Andrew is currently at home recovering. Andrew is able to move his hand a bit, but doctors predict it will be another 6 months to a year until he will have partial use of his arm. It will be long road of physical therapy but we have high hopes that Andrew will defy the odds.
As you can imagine the medical bills are piling up, and Andrews’s health insurance will soon be gone. Since Andrew is part of the Union, he has accrued hours that go towards his medical benefits; unfortunately these hours will be exhausted by April 1st. No hours equals no health insurance.
Without our help Andrew’s health insurance will lapse, result in in an enormous amount of debt. With all the challenges Andrew is currently facing let’s not make financial debt one of them.
Andrew is part of the Sullivan Family, so let’s rally together and get him through this hard time.
We are asking for your help! Our goal is to raise $4,000.00.
Here’s how you can help:
Cash or Check - can be dropped off to Crispin McCracken. Please make checks out to Andrew Mcelyea.
Debt/Credit Card - can be done through this GoFundMe account (note that GoFundMe does charge around 5% for every donation).
We will award Andrew a check with all the money we raise at the end of March.
This site will be updated regular so make sure to check back for updates.
Special thanks to Quinn Laudenslager and Dave Savarese to already committing to donate $1,000.00 each!
