Andrew's road to recovery with MRSA

Hello my name is Ashley and I am raising funds for my husband Andrew. Andrew is a father of 3, a loving husband, and is also well known in our community as a lieutenant/EMT at our local Fire Department where he works full time. On May 3rd, 2023, Andrew went in for a total knee replacement. The doctor said he would only be out of work for 4 to 6 weeks. Which was good because he had saved up enough time off to cover this. He was making a full recovery and things were going great, until Friday June 9th, 2023 when we had to make a trip to the orthopedics because he was unable to walk due to severe pain, as well as some redness to the skin. The doctor drew some blood from his knee to send off to be tested. We were told he had cellulitis and he was prescribed oral antibiotics. Well first thing Monday morning Andrew received a call from the orthopedics saying that he needed to come in for emergency surgery. The test from blood had come back positive for MRSA. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a group of gram-positive bacteria that are genetically distinct from other strains of Staphylococcus aureus. MRSA is responsible for several difficult-to-treat infections in humans. It caused more than 100,000 deaths attributable to antimicrobial resistance in 2019. So Monday June 12th, 2023 we were back at the hospital and Andrew underwent surgery to clean out the knee from the infection. He spent 3 days in the hospital and received a PICC (Peripherally inserted central catheter) line to recieve IV antibiotics. We have to drive to infectious disease clinic 7 days a week for the next 6 to 8 weeks for him to receive IV antibiotic infusions daily. So not only recovering from the knee replacement, he now has to fight this nasty infection, and we are unsure when he will be able to return to work. We are asking for financial help since he will not be getting a paycheck for the remainder of the time he is out of work. We know times are tough, but anything will help. Thank you so much.
