Andrew's memorial fundraiser for Firefly

On the 2nd May 2021, my father Andrew Marlow sadly passed away after a battle with tonsil cancer. He was the kindest, funniest and most talented man and was loved by so many. Always the life and soul of the party, he had the ability to light up any room with his brilliant storytelling, witty remarks and infectious laugh. Up until the very end he was still an incredibly funny man, finding humour in even the darkest of days. He's left a huge hole in our lives and I don't think we will ever come to terms with losing such a positive and beautiful soul.

During his battle with cancer he endured 7 weeks of radiotherapy which was an extremely painful and unpleasant experience. He had to go through 6 radiotherapy sessions a week, having only one days rest. My mum and dad both felt panicked at the prospect of travelling to Sheffield daily and the cost that parking could accrue over the 7 week period. Firefly eradicated all of these worries straight away. Everyday they would pick him up from his home and take him to Sheffield hospital and after his radiotherapy, they would drive him back home. They knew when every single one of his treatment sessions were and they were  a godsend over the 7 weeks. Without them, my dad may not have not been able to make it to all of his sessions.  All drivers and workers for Firefly are volunteers and it only feels right that in Andrew's memory we try to give back to the charity that made an awful part of his life that little bit easier.

Because of Firefly my dad was able to have a chance at fighting his cancer and the lovely workers eased all worries that both my mum and dad had about radiotherapy. So, instead of bringing flowers to the funeral, we ask that you donate to this amazing charity who have undoubtedly helped to save so many lives. It is astonishing the level of dedication and care they give to each patient, especially knowing they are a non profit organisation. My dad was eternally grateful for them during his battle with cancer and he would be so happy to hear that he played a part in raising money for them. We would be grateful for any donations at all, no matter how big or small.
