My goal in life is to help address the needs of people and communities through politics, specifically, legislation and public policy. To achieve this goal, I plan on studying law at Columbia or Harvard University. As an undergraduate I will work hard to learn how political decisions are made, implemented, evaluated, and affect our society. To attend one of these prestigious institutions, I have to prepare myself early at working at a high academic level. For this reason I applied to the distinguished Oxford Tradition Summer Program at Oxford University, majoring in International Relations and Minoring in Politics and Economics for the entire month of July 2017. This summer camp brings students from the international community to study and discuss interesting topics. Many students go on to attend universities around the world such as Harvard, Cambridge, MIT and become highly successful in their respective fields. I intend to be one of those students. However, this summer camp is not cheap. The total tuition to attend this program is $8,295. For this reason, I applied for the African-American Scholarship to receive a full ride scholarship. In receiving response from the scholarship committee, I was notified that I would not receive a full scholarship, but instead an Exceptional Merit Scholarship, amounting to $1,425. This brings the overall total for the program to $6,870. I am currently saving more money, doing chores, and more to raise the money. But I need your help. I want to be able to represent Columbus, Columbus Alternative High School, Ohio, and to a greater extent the United States at this program and I cannot do this alone.
