Andrew was subsequently diagnosed with Encephalitis and Viral Meningitis which has caused brain swelling, confusion and memory loss and at one-point lead to his admission into ICU.
Andrew's condition has now stabilised, however the swelling in Andrew's brain is over his language centre which controls words, understanding, reading and writing and is the reason for the confusion that he is currently experiencing. There have been small improvements each day, but it is going to be a long road for a full recovery. This will involve intensive speech therapy, physiotherapy and constant care.
Andrew will be unable to work for an unknown period of time and his current condition will put limitations on Andrew’s wife Mel's working ability as she see’s to both Andrew’s and their daughter Kimberly’s needs.
Andrew is an active within the community and is always the first to put his hand up to help out others. Andrew is a Long Standing member at North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club. He is a past Branch, State and Australian Champion in First Aid. Andrew volunteers his time on patrols protecting the community and is an age manager teaching young nippers surf lifesaving skills.
Please help us support Andrew and his family through his recovery. Any support would be greatly appreciated.
