My name is Andrew Morton (Hayes).

This is my first ever GoFundMe.

Apart from my dear 13 year old support dog Maggie (pictured) I am alone, neurodivergent, and despite living with multiple disabilities, my goal is to swim at the Valencia Spain International Gay Games 2026.

I use a wheelchair and tire out very quickly, so the only way I could fly to Spain is with a flat bed airline seat.

As a disability pensioner and NDIS recipient I haven’t been able to work for 20 years but I’m still willing to sacrifice most of my small savings to represent Perth at Valencia and encourage all people living with disabilities to access sport!

As I’ve survived pulmonary embolism, brain injury, ADHD and long term HIV, I am truly proof that you only live once!

None the less, I’m a happy person who loves sport.

My swimming team The Perth Rainbow Swans have helped me come out of my shell and been amazingly supportive of me and other swimmers living with disabilities. In a swimming pool I cannot fall over and I feel like I am flying.

It’s quite difficult for fiercely independent me to ask for help but so many people have said I should GoFundMe including Team Perth, my neurologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychologist and of course the Rainbow Swans.

If you would like to contribute anything at all to help me get to Spain that would be so lovely I think I would cry.

I would be ecstatic if my story gave even one PWD that extra nudge to take up sport.

Sport gives your life additional meaning on top of the health benefits and as Perth Australia will host the 2030 International Gay Games we need more West Aussies to support Valencia.

The goal fund is for the cost of the airfares but I would use any excess towards wheelchair accessible accommodation in Valencia and/or helping another athlete with their own airfare to Spain!

Please help me to go there.

Este es mi primer GoFundMe.

Aparte de mi querida perra de apoyo de 13 años, Maggie (en la foto), estoy solo, neurodivergente y, a pesar de vivir con múltiples discapacidades, mi objetivo es nadar en los Juegos Internacionales Gay de Valencia España 2026.

Uso silla de ruedas y me canso muy rápido, así que la única forma de volar a España es con un asiento plano de avión. Como pensionista por discapacidad y beneficiaria del NDIS, no he podido trabajar en 20 años, pero sigo dispuesta a sacrificar la mayor parte de mis pequeños ahorros para representar a Perth en Valencia y animar a todas las personas con discapacidad a acceder al deporte.

Como he sobrevivido a embolias pulmonares, lesiones cerebrales, TDAH y VIH a largo plazo, ¡soy la prueba de que solo se vive una vez! Aun así, soy una persona feliz que ama el deporte.

Mi equipo de natación, los Perth Rainbow Swans, me ha ayudado a salir de mi caparazón y ha sido increíblemente solidario con mí y con otros nadadores que viven con discapacidades.

En una piscina no puedo caerme y siento que estoy volando.

Es bastante difícil para mi yo tan independiente pedir ayuda, pero mucha gente me ha dicho que debería ir a FundMe, incluyendo al equipo de Perth, mi neurólogo, fisioterapeuta, terapeuta ocupacional, psicólogo y, por supuesto, los Rainbow Swans.
