On July 24, 2015, Andrew L. Schrader, 47 years old, spouse and father was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig disease. A disease of the parts of the nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. With ALS, nerve cells that control muscle cells are gradually lost or destroyed. As these motor neurons are lost, the muscles they control become weak and then nonfunctional. Eventually the person with ALS is paralyzed.
Since Andy’s diagnosis in 2015, he has become unable to care for himself, has lost the use of both arms and is no longer able to walk. Andy depends on 24 hours a day care for getting up in the morning, dressing, hygiene, toileting, eating, scratching an itch, rolling over at night (everything we take for granted) from his wife, Melinda. To care for Andy, a lot of special equipment is needed, remodeling needs done to the home and a wheelchair accessible van in needed for transporting that insurance does not cover and being an around the clock caregiver has left Melinda unable to work outside of the home.
Your support through any amount of donation to help with expenses during this difficult time is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
