On the morning of Wednesday, April 24th Andrew was on his way home from working a two week hitch in the oil fields in Wyoming when he was in a severe car accident less than 20 miles from home. After crashing into a grain truck, Andrew noticed that his truck had started on fire and was able to get himself out and crawl on the road to the back of his truck. His quick thinking saved his life - he was told that if he would have stayed in the truck another 30 seconds he wouldn't be here with us today.
Andrew was taken to Fargo by ambulance where they found out he had severely broken his right leg along with a fractured sternum. On the way there he started spitting up blood that CT scans later showed is because his lungs are badly bruised. He went into surgery where they placed a rod and screws from his knee to his ankle. The doctors were only able to save about 30% of his bone as his tibia broke in half. His bone also punctured through the skin, which could result in the need for a graft if it doesn't heal correctly because there was a lot of damage and loss to the skin on his leg.
Because of the extent of his injuries, both Andrew and Kylee will be out of work for up to 6 months. Along with many doctor appointments to track his healing, Andrew will also have to do physical therapy. He is unable to drive for quite some time as it was his right leg that was broken in the crash, so Kylee will need to be his caretaker and take him to and from his appointments.
Andrew and Kylee are very grateful for all the help and support they have received! Any little bit helps as they start recovering from this. They are not taking anything for granted as Andrew is a true miracle!
