It is with great sadness that we post this fund regarding the death of our friend, teammate, and shipmate, Andrew McHugh. Andrew passed away tragically in a car crash Wednesday morning 10/7/2020. As we are all still processing Andrew’s passing, we ask for all of our Fort Schuyler Shipmates to keep Andrew and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
First and foremost, Andrew was a friend to all. Even if it was your first time meeting him, Andrew always made you feel like you belonged. Andrew was as genuine as they come, knowing when he needed to lend an ear or when you needed a good laugh. You don’t come across many people like Andrew, he really was his own breed. We all have countless stories of his friendship and kindness. If you would like to learn more about Andrew and his life, reach out to any recent graduate. Andrew was a 2019 graduate of SUNY Maritime, graduating with a degree in Marine Transportation and his 3/M Unlimited License. He was a leader on campus, holding the position of Residential Advisor (RA) and Captain of the Rugby Team. Although Andrew was a leader in all aspects of college life, his immense impact on the Maritime Community is something that could not just be recorded on a muster sheet or stat card.
He is survived by his parents, grandparents, and brother, Matt who is a Senior (1/C) at SUNY Maritime. Our goal is to raise enough money to cover the tuition costs of Matt's final semester at SUNY Maritime. All excess money will be donated to the family to aid in the costs of Andrew's funeral.
We ask that everyone respects the McHugh family and their privacy during this time. We would like to offer our condolences and assistance to the McHugh family to make this extremely difficult time easier. Thank you all for your prayers and contributions.
