Andrew Lucas Cancer Fight and Recovery

Hi my name is Shawn Reece and I am raising funds for Andrew Lucas as he fights cancer. Funds are needed for his family's monthly bills and other expenses. Andrew and his wife Aly (my best friend of 17 years) will need help to win this battle.

On November 8th, the day the Lucas family should have been celebrating their youngest son's birthday, they spent it in the hospital, learning their lives were about to drastically change. Andrew, the only provider for the family went to the ER for severe stomach pain and fevers, after doing an abdominal scan the Dr's miraculously spotted at the top of the scan a spot on Andrew's lung. After further testing they discovered a mediastinum mass in his chest. Andrew was diagnosed with a stage 4 non-hodgkins epstein-barr virus-positive lymphoma. The tumor is in his chest, above his heart and into his throat and cancer has also been identified in his pleura, the lining of his lung and it is causing his lung to fill with fluid.

Andrew began chemotherapy this week and he will have 6 total treatments to start. One all day treatment every 3 weeks. This will be 5 months total of treatment.

Andrew is the only provider for him, his wife and his 3 kids. Andrew will be off work for at least 5 months for chemo and a potential heart surgery depending on how responds to the current treatment plan. He's laid off for the slow season so he is eventually going to collect unemployment but it's only 40% of his income. This does not cover all their bills, food, diapers and gas to drive an hour and back for Dr's appointments and treatments. He was going to do snow removal for the missing income through the winter but is obviously unable to work. This puts them 60% short of their needed income to survive.

Aly homeschools her sons Asher age 13 and Ezra age 6 as well as tending to Zion who is 1. She will not be able to work as Andrew will not be well enough to take care of his 3 boys while doing chemo treatments.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Andrew sees he is an amazing man who is kind and strong. He is genuine, respectful and values his family above all. He is one of the hardest workers and greatest providers for his family often working long difficult and physically demanding days without complaint to provide and protect his family. If anyone is deserving of help this man is.
