Hello! My name is Andrew Fries, I've been an Arizona teacher for almost 8 years, serving two locations in two cities in my career: Coolidge and Mesa. On December 17, 2021 I was diagnosed with stage II mixed germ cell, non-seninoma cancer of the testis.
After undergoing a surgery on January 5, 2021, I received the news that I would need 9 weeks of BEP chemotherapy (3 cycles) in order to treat the spread to my lower abdomen. This was devastating news because of the notorious hardships chemotherapy brings both to financial situations and health & safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I do not qualify for any financial assistance at my job because I have not worked in the position for more than a year.
I also do not qualify for social security or disability benefits because my treatment is for less than a year.
On top of that, chemotherapy has made it extremely difficult to work consistently and safely, so naturally, I'm in a financial crisis.
I am humbly asking for help. Anything helps. I promise to be transparent and open about the handling of any help provided, and am open to answer any and all questions you may have before or after offering help.
In the end, I'd like to pay forward in some way and will come up with a transparent SMART plan to accomplish that goal for my helpers!
With humility,
Andrew Fries <3
