On April 6, our beautiful boy Andrew Kevin Eugene Mack unexpectedly passed away at his home in Davis, California.  Andrew was a senior engineering student at UC Davis and two months from graduating with his degree in  civil engineering, a profession he would have shared with his grandfather.  He was happily working along side his classmates in a new job at the Pavement Research Center at UC Davis which he loved.

A former Infantryman in the 2/508 Parachute Infantry Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division,  Andrew served 15 months in active combat duty in the mountains of Afghanistan.  He served with distinction, earning countless awards,  to include an award for valor in combat.

Andrew was 35 years old at the time of his passing.  But Andrew was more than the words that might otherwise show up on a resume to describe him.   He was the kind of guy that lit up a room when he entered.  He was a funny, smart, kind-hearted, give you the shirt off his back kind of guy.

Need a ride?  Call Andrew
Need someone to cover your 6?  Call Andrew
Need someone to get in the shark infested water and swim you to safety?   Call Andrew

He is loved more than the earth and the moon and the sky.  We are so proud of his service to this country, the kind of man he had become and the man he was intended to be.  There are fewer worthy of the love of a nation and a community, but Andrew easily earned that distinction.

Andrew is survived by his mother, Jennifer.  He was her only child.  He is also survived by his aunts, Elizabeth Coleman Sawyer and Sally Shapiro, and an extended family of cousins who deeply loved Andrew.  Family was very important to Andrew, but so were his lifelong friendships.  He will also be remembered by an extended community of Army brothers and friends who are stunned at his passing.

Please help his family in this time of need to assist with the proper honoring of Andrew.   In this trying time, things have become much more difficult to navigate.   The goal is to maintain Andrews belongings in order to preserve his memory.   He will be cremated with the intention to lay his ashes in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.  Lastly, once this national crisis is over, we will plan a Celebration of Life in Andrew's honor in Redding, California.

"I bid you take your place in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave shall live forever.  Nor shall we mourn, but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death."

Till Valhalla Andrew
