Our dear friend and collaborator, Andres recently and unexpectedly passed away.

We had the honor to meet him the first time we visited Livichuco in 2018. He had been working with El Centro Artesanal de Livichuco, located in the municipality of Challapata, in Oruro, and belong to the “Asociación de Artesanías para Seguir Unidos” (APSU).

Andres was a leader and one of the representatives of this organization. He was the guide in the demonstrations carried out in the center and had a deep knowledge in the field of textiles and natural dying.

His expertise in plants and animals was incredible and being a "Yatiri" (the wise one in Aymara) He was a medical practitioner and community healer and was well respected and admired in his community.

He and his wife Mercesa cared for 9 children, and they both created beautiful textiles that we have the privilege to sell with Ponchos Rojas.

We are fundraising on behalf of Mercesa Choquecha de Maraza,his wife and life partner.

Nuestro querido amigo y colaborador Andrés falleció recientemente e inesperadamente. Tuvimos el honor de conocerlo la primera vez que visitamos la comunidad de tejedoras de Livichuco en el 2018. Él venía trabajando con El Centro Artesanal de Livichuco, ubicado en el municipio de Challapata, en Oruro, y pertenencia a la “Asociación de Artesanías para Seguir Unidos” (APSU).

Andrés fue un líder y uno de los representantes de esta organización. Fue el guía en las demostraciones realizadas en el centro y tenía un profundo conocimiento en el campo del textil y los tintes naturales.

Su experiencia con plantas y animales era increíble y siendo Yatiri, “sabio” en Aymara, era reconocido como médico y curandero comunitario. Era muy respetado y admirado en su comunidad.

Él y su esposa Mercesa cuidaron a 9 hijos y ambos crearon hermosos textiles que tenemos el privilegio de vender con Ponchos Rojas.

Estamos recaudando fondos a nombre de Mercesa Choquecha de Maraza, su esposa y compañera de vida.
