Andreas Wiedemann Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Andreas Wiedemann entered our lives 16 years ago when he decided to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and dual major in Aeronautical Science and Aeronautical Engineering. Over the next several years, he would impress flight instructors, faculty and fellow students alike. His love for aviation and education was second only to his love for his friends and his dog, Schoggi, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Andreas loved camping, hiking and rock climbing most of all. He would go by himself if he had to, but much preferred to have his friends and his beloved Schoggi with him.
Eventually, Andreas moved to Lakewood, Colorado to attend the Colorado School of Mines, pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. When not studying, he spent most of his time outdoors with Schoggi and his group of friends... climbing, hiking and camping. He had a goal to climb all of the 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado, a goal he was well on his way to attaining.
Last year, 2015, Andreas was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that had already spread to various places in his body. On July 29, 2016, Andreas passed into the next world after his very upbeat and courageous battle.
Andreas is originally from Switzerland, but spent the second half of his life in the U.S. Circumstances prevented him from staying and he was forced to move back to Switzerland, where he was soon diagnosed with cancer. Andreas has a memorial in Switzerland, but those of us in the U.S. that love him want to have a memorial here as well. We are raising money to place a memorial stone in The Cremation Gardens at Rocky Mountain Memorial Park in Aurora, Colorado, the same gardens where our friend Mike Bieniewicz is buried. Mike and Andreas will be wingmen forever.
We are trying to raise $8,000 so we can have a memorial stone placed in the Gardens. If we do not raise that much, we will use the money we receive to add Andreas to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Memorial Wall in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (Click here for more info. ) We do have other options at the Gardens that cost less, so we may also use the money for those, however, we feel the memorial stone is most fitting for our friend. Money in excess of what we need will be used for the EAA Memorial Wall.
Thank you for your kind consideration in helping us to have a permanent remembrance for our cherished friend.
Additional information: My name is Ben Kiteley. I live in Aurora, Colorado and Andreas was one of my very best friends. Once this campaign is complete, I will withdraw the funds from the GoFundMe account to distribute to Horan & McConaty, the caretaker of The Cremation Gardens at Rocky Mountain Memorial Park. I will also pay for the EAA Memorial Wall marker, via a donation, with any excess funds.
