21 Credits from My Dream: Help Andrea Graduate

¡Hola!

Me llamo Andrea De Freitas y soy estudiante universitaria de primera generación, inmigrante con Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) y orgullosa becaria Nacional de TheDream.US. He llegado hasta aquí gracias a mi esfuerzo, los sacrificios de mi familia y la generosidad de quienes creen en la educación.

Hoy me encuentro ante un obstáculo inesperado y urgente. Me faltan solo 21 créditos para obtener mi Licenciatura en Contabilidad en Florida International University (FIU), pero debido a un cambio repentino en las políticas migratorias, es posible que no pueda terminarla. Hasta hace poco, TheDream.US cubría mi educación a través de una colaboración con mi universidad. Sin embargo, la organización anunció que dejará de colaborar con mi institución a partir de mayo de 2025. Esto significa que los fondos de los que dependía para completar mis cursos finales ya no están disponibles, y como beneficiaria del TPS, no soy elegible para becas federales, la mayoría de las privadas ni ayudas.

He trabajado incansablemente para llegar hasta aquí. Desde compaginar mi trabajo a tiempo completo con mis estudios, hasta mantener la esperanza cuando todo estaba en mi contra. Estar tan cerca de graduarme y de repente enfrentarme a un muro financiero es angustiante. Estoy decidida a terminar lo que empecé, pero no puedo hacerlo sola. Necesito reunir $5,484.54 para cubrir la matrícula, cuotas y materiales de mis cursos finales. Cada dólar que puedas aportar me acerca un paso más a mi sueño.

Este título representa mucho más que un simple éxito académico. Significa poder ayudar a mi familia, contribuir a mi comunidad y demostrar que nuestros sueños son posibles, sin importar de dónde vengamos.

Hi!

My name is Andrea De Freitas, and I am a first-generation college student, an immigrant under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and a proud TheDream.US National Scholar. I’ve made it this far thanks to my hard work, my family’s sacrifices, and the generosity of people who believe in the power of education.

Today I find myself facing an unexpected and urgent obstacle: I am just 21 credits away from earning my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Florida International University, but due to a sudden policy change, I may not be able to finish. Until recently, TheDream.US was covering my education through a partnership with my university. However, the organization announced that they will no longer partner with FIU after May 2025. This means the funding I was relying on to complete my final courses is no longer available, and as a TPS holder, I’m not eligible for federal, most private scholarships, or aid.

I’ve worked tirelessly to get here. From balancing full-time work while studying, to staying hopeful when the odds were against me. Being this close to graduation and suddenly facing a financial wall is heartbreaking. I am determined to finish, but I cannot do it alone. The total amount I need is $5,484.54 to pay for my final 21 credits, including tuition, fees, and course materials for the summer term. Every dollar you contribute will bring me closer to crossing that finish line and graduating.

This degree represents more than just academic success. It means being able to support my family, give back to my community, and prove that our dreams are possible, no matter where we come from.
