Andrea Dellinger is an Edenton native who has had a hand in bringing the past two generations of Chowan County babies into the world. You may not know her personally, but I can assure you recognize her from jumping in the shower with you (or your significant other) to give the first shower after your delivery, for assisting with your every breastfeeding need, for bathing and rocking your baby at night so you could get that nap you needed before discharge, and for training the next two generations of nurses about gut feelings and all things baby that no textbook could ever teach. To know Andrea is to love her, for her contagious laugh, her honest opinions, and her “what you see is what you get” personality. As for me, she has carried me through some of the darkest moments of my life. She’s ALWAYS a phone call away, any hour of the day. She’s held my hand through all my loss, grief, recipe needs, cooking lessons, and life lessons for the past decade. She is my “work mom”.

If you feel led, it’s now the time that you can give to the woman who has always given herself. Andrea is in desperate need of a liver. An autoimmune disease causing non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver has caused Andrea to live the past two years in and out of the hospital, unable to work, and forced to retire after 34 years as a bedside nurse. Gratefully, she has found help at Duke University Hospital where she is FINALLY on the transplant list and awaiting a call any minute for a liver. This will be life-saving and life-changing for Andrea! Prayerfully, she may even make it back to the bedside once in a while to love on everyone’s babies and grandbabies again.

With transplants come a LOT of costs. The cost of hospital bills, travel fees, a minimal 30-day stay in Durham, medications, and day-to-day living expenses. The entirety of this GoFundMe will go to Andrea to lessen one of the many stresses that lie ahead for her.
