Andrea’s Fertility Preservation and Cancer Costs
Hello, my name is Andrea. I am 32 years old and just recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I’ve been advised to get my eggs retrieved and frozen before treatment due to unknown effects from treatment and having to take 5 years of hormone blockers; we can’t start trying until after hormone blockers are complete. Not to mention I have PCOS (a hormone imbalance) so fertility is already a hard process, let alone with all of these other factors added on to it. I planned on doing fundraisers over the summer to help pay for everything but unfortunately things are having to move fast and they require the money upfront. Our insurance doesn’t help with infertility treatments; I applied for BCCHP but due to us having insurance we were denied; I tried looking into grants/scholarships but there aren’t many (that I have found) for Washington state, simply for egg retrieval, and that are available now. We attempted getting a personal loan but, again, unfortunately we were not accepted.
Any money raised will go towards egg retrieval and freezing for fertility preservation and help with out of pocket expenses from breast cancer treatment. The amount needed ASAP for the egg retrieval to be done is $5,625. This is the breakdown of the expenses so far…
Retrieval, early monitoring, monitoring, and cryopreservation of eggs- $5,625
Medications- $2,500 (more or less)
Out of Pocket expenses from breast cancer (so far)- $9,172
A little about myself…
I’ve been with my husband for 13 years. After years of trying and the help of fertility treatments we were blessed with our daughter 2 1/2 years ago. She is everything to us. We’ve always hoped to have a big family and sadly it’s been a long hard road to accomplish. We both work at our local casino dealing cards. I’m still in limbo waiting for my position to open up again due to Covid but we are lead to believe that should happen soon! For now he is the sole provider for our family. I have been loving my time as a stay at home mom.
I think that’s about it. If there’s a way to do comments on here and you have any questions feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer them. Thank you so much for your time and any help you can provide. We are embarrassed to ask but so thankful for anything that comes our way. So again, thank you for your help and we hope you have an amazing day.
