Our matriarch, mom, grammy, sister, friend, advocate and inspiration, Andrea Sweeting, petition’s your support.
Andrea has spent the last 18 years serving as the President of Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, and the Group's most passionate and energetic Survivor. The ‘feet on the street’, "get the job done" Breast Cancer Survivor. She has touched the lives of countless women, men, children and families through her compassion and warmth. She fearlessly shares her good news about overcoming breast cancer and in doing this helps others struggling with the fear of diagnosis.
Andrea has been recognized by her community as a great humanitarian and nation builder, having received many awards including The Bahamian Icon Awards for Humanitarianism and the Cacique Award for her outstanding achievements in Hotel Management.
She is an active member of St. Agnes Anglican Church where she serves on the Usher Board and the Anglican Church Women (ACW) where she spreads that infectious loving personality that we all fell in love with.
As the President of Sister Sister, she works hard to ensure that others receive the support, care, compassion and at times financial assistance they need to fight and survive. Unfortunately sometimes our strongest soldiers must face a battle themselves. Andrea is facing the BIGGEST challenge in her life's journey... On September 5th Andrea suffered a STROKE with paralysis to the left side and is without medical insurance. Andrea needs OUR HELP. She spent four days in the ICU at Doctor’s Hospital to receive the care she needs. As of today, Andrea is still at Doctor’s Hospital under the care of a team of cardiologist, neurologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech pathologists… all of which she will continue seeing on her road to recovery.
Prior to her stroke, Andrea found out that she has congestive heart failure on August 2nd. Since her heart failure diagnosis, Andrea has been hospitalized repeatedly, having conditions of pneumonia, fluid buildup to her lungs, dehydration w/ kidney infection and poor circulation. She has undergone full medical reviews at PMH, Doctor’s Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas and Advent Hospital in Tampa, FL (further explanation below). She has been subjected to various medical tests, MRI, brain scans, x-rays, x-rays with contrast, ECG, etc
Andrea has a plan of action that can get her back on her feet in the weeks and months ahead, with all conditions and prayers being aligned. Her prognosis is as positive as we are. She needs OUR HELP!
In a world where medical expenses outpace a declining health situation, where a health insurance system does not cater to Survivors of non-communicable diseases, we need to come TOGETHER to support each other. Andrea is someone nationally recognized by her community as a servant to so many; she is now in need of the same care and compassion she has shown others.
We her Family and Friends are humbly seeking YOUR SUPPORT to help cover her ongoing medical bills.
Our goal is to cover the first $150,000 in medical expenses hoping this will move her past the initial prognosis to restoration of health and continued service to so many. Grammy/Mom/Andrea’s work is far from done, we need your help in ensuring that she continues to spread the message and provide hope to so many in her community.
Andrea is currently recovering and doing her rehabilitation treatment in Tampa, Florida with her daughter D'Andrea Cary and her son-in-law Andrew Cary. Andrew Cary and D'Andrea Cary are both assisting in collecting funds to assist in Andrea's medical expenses.
