Andrea Hofer broke her spine - but not her spirit.

Dear Friends of Andrea Hofer,

Dear All,

Our beloved friend Andrea had a terrible bicycle accident on June 10, 2024, in Faro, her home community in the Yukon. She broke her neck and survived it.

She suffered a severe spinal injury and broke six of her cervical vertebras. She was admitted to the Vancouver General Hospital; was at the ICU for two weeks, and is now in the Spine Unit.

Andrea broke her spine, but not her spirit.

We are all convinced that she will heal, be able to walk again and return home, soon.

She is making some tiny progress each day, regaining mobility in her arms and hands. However, she still cannot feel her body from the chest down.

Benjamin from Revelstoke has been comforting her and at her side since day 1. I just visited her from Switzerland for a week.

Soon, her mom and sis from Austria will be with her for a few days. She is in very good hands at the VGH.

The prognosis

It is yet uncertain when she will be able to live a self-sufficient life again. Up to that point, there will most likely be major medical costs to cover as well as the maintenance of her home in Faro. Her healing and full recovery might be a rather lengthy haul. Nevertheless, she is a fighter, because she wants to live and heal.

Andrea has always supported and helped many people in their healing process with her boundless, loving generosity.

She had never and would never ask for help!

However, we all see, that she is currently in the most vulnerable and helpless position one can ever be.

Benjamin and I started this fundraiser to help her in the process of getting back on her feet.

We have no idea how much funds are going to be necessary, but the system on this website requires us to state an amount as a fundraising goal. Anything Andrea receives will help and be highly appreciated.
