My friend, Andrea, and her (almost) two-year-old daughter, Sarah, are two peas in a pod. Andrea's love and devotion to Sarah are obvious to anyone who sees her face light up with joy as she talks about her baby. Despite facing some overwhelming challenges recently, Andrea continues to show up as a caring, determined, and resilient mom.
Sarah has some medical needs that require extra care, and Andrea has done everything in her power to provide for her. But recently, life took a hard turn. After the end of a relationship, Andrea and Sarah found themselves without a home or a car. Andrea has been searching tirelessly for a job for over a month, but with no access to public transportation or childcare, opportunities have been out of reach. She has contacted every community and government resource available, but housing waitlists are months long. A few friends have helped as much as they can -- covering some nights in a motel or providing groceries -- but no one is in a position to take them in long-term. Andrea is currently staying in a small town and job options within walking distance are scarce.
What she needs most right now is a car. With a car, Andrea could immediately start doing food delivery or rideshare work to begin earning income. It would also open doors for more permanent employment opportunities in the greater Charleston area. Most importantly, it would be a first step toward stability and independence.
We're trying to raise $8,000 to cover:
- A reliable used car from a trusted seller ($5,000)
- Car insurance for six months
- First and last month's rent for a safe place to live
Every dollar helps -- truly. If you're in a position to give, even a small amount, it will go directly toward helping Andrea and Sarah regain their footing and build a better, safer life.
There's so much hardship in the world right now, and it's easy to feel helpless. But together, we can make a real difference -- even if it's just for one mother and her little girl.
