Please help us get the children of Andranondambo away from dangerous mica mining labour, and back into school.

The children of Andranondambo Primary School in rural southern Madagascar have been through a lot. In the last six years they have had to flee the village twice due to violent attacks, and because of poverty and the lack of a school canteen many children spend their days helping their families at the mica and sapphire mines surrounding the village, and so have not been in school regularly.

The area is now relatively calm and secure, the primary school (EPP) has over 280 pupils registered and the middle school (CEG) over one hundred, however the school only has enough tables and chairs for about 10% of the pupils. One of the 8 classrooms has a table for the teacher to put their books on, and the classrooms are all lacking shelves.

I have been working in Andranondambo periodically for the last three years on a research project, and have realised that now it is time to give something back. With carpenters Doly and Randria, who I have worked with for over twenty years, we have started working on building tables and chairs for the school as of March 18th 2020 we have built 48 table and chair units, enough for two of the eight classrooms - we need your help to finish the job.

The estimated costs are as follows:
Wood - £790
Nails and Screws - £70
Tools (saws, files, hammers, planes) - £60
Transport of Materiels from Fort Dauphin - £670
Salaries for Carpenters and Supervisor - £1570
Food and Accomodation for the Carpenters - £450
Total Cost - £3610
