Ana's post-grad education

Donation protected

Hello!

My name is Anakeiry cruz, I recently graduated Hunter College with a degree in Dance and a minor in journalism. Since my freshman year of college I knew my post-grad plans included dancing full-time, training and diving deeper into my craft to further develop my artistry. Thus, while I was working and also doing 23 credits at school, I devoted my weekends - for two months - putting together submission materials in hopes of getting accepted to a program . I’m very happy to announce I got accepted to the professional semester at Broadway Dance Center, world-renowned dance institution.

Ballet submission for programs.

My journey as an aspiring artist started with musical theater programs at the age of 12. I then attended a performing arts high school were I got to continue to nurture my love for performing by doing more acting, playwriting, vocal lessons, being dance captain, a member of the Theater Development Fund organization and perform off-broadway. While I was in high school I also explored the concert realm of dance and did programs with the Martha Graham school and NYU Tisch Future dancers and Dancemakers.

After high school I went to Temple University for dance. I loved it, unfortunately after one semester I had to transfer back to the city due to my financial situation. While this was a setback, I didn't let my passion for training grow weary. I was fortunate to continue to dance at Hunter College and also outside of school in an independent training program.

I'm happy to say I graduated college and my passion for training in dance has been  stronger than ever. I have never let the cards that have been given to me dictate what I can and cannot do. I’ve always prioritized my training because that is the way I am able to take control of my own life trajectory.

Participating in the professional semester at BDC will give me the tools that I need to succeed.  BDC provides a full training package that will allow me to continue to cultivate myself as a diverse dancer and succeed in the industry. As cheesy as it sounds, dance is a universal language.  Being able to communicate different cultures, stories or translate different rhythms is what makes it exciting  to do this job for a living. Pursuing dance as a career has its uncertainty but the one thing I'm certain of is how much I love doing it and that’s all that matters. I hope to become an artist who inspires - especially those who feel they don’t belong - to not be afraid to pursue their passion and to always make room for their talents to be seen.

The total cost of the program is $3,850. The amount reflected in my goal is what I need to get there. Asking for help is hard me for do. However, I don't want my fears to stop me from doing a program that can help me grow and become one step closer to achieving my goals.

Any donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
