Dear Friends and Family,
It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I share this update. What was once a GoFundMe to support Ana’s lung transplant journey has now become a request for help with her funeral services.
In February, Ana received a successful lung transplant and began making beautiful progress. She was no longer dependent on oxygen and was adjusting well to the incredible gift she had received. She and our dad had moved into a new home near the hospital, creating a new rhythm to their lives—filled with warm California walks, hopeful doctor visits, and the quiet joy of envisioning a brighter future.
The doctors were optimistic. She was thriving, and we were told she needed just one more surgery to address another health concern. On weekends, Guillermo, Ariel, and Luis would visit, surrounding her with love and laughter.
Just days ago, she enjoyed a beautiful weekend with her children and grandchildren—cooking, listening to music, smiling, laughing, and relishing in the simple joys she'd missed for so long. For the first time in a long time, it felt like hope was winning.
But on Sunday morning, everything changed. Ana expressed she was in pain, feeling nauseous and short of breath. Despite every effort to get her help in time, she passed away in their car on the way to the hospital with my dad—her “Honey”. I wish I could say it was peaceful, that we had time for our goodbyes. But the truth is, it was sudden, painful, and deeply traumatic.
Our hearts are shattered, and we are trying to make sense of this loss while caring for one another through the grief.
I ask that you please keep my father, my brothers, and all those who loved Ana in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
And once more, I humbly ask for your support. Every dollar raised for Ana's transplant was used toward her medical care and living expenses. With our dad currently without income and my brothers having taken on much of the financial burden, we are now faced with the overwhelming cost of funeral arrangements.
Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world to us as we honor Ana's life.
With all my love and gratitude
