Hello, my name is Jonathan, and I'm starting a fundraiser for my wife Ana. Currently Ana is in a battle with multiple severe health conditions the most recent being Short Bowel Syndrome or SBS. After suffering through severe abdominal pain it was determined she needed surgery in an attempt to fix the problem, unfortunately one surgery was not enough and another was performed to correct the issue but the surgeons were unable to repair the her small intestine. Which has led to her having two fistulas on her stomach that constantly excrete waste that needs to be collected via drain bags. Also, she is now on a feeding tube due to SGS she cannot intake food and nutrition the way she normally would, it’s now done through supplemental shakes that feed her 12 hours a day. Since then she has been hospitalized multiple on multiple occasions and it’s some hospital stays lasting up to 6 months. Currently there is no quick/easy fix for this. It will require a major invasive surgery in an effort to repair her intestines which has only been performed a handful of times by her surgical nutrition doctors. Also, Ana has been in a constant battle of living with kidney disease since the age of 9 called Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), which after some years led to her kidneys finally shutting down and failing. Which, in turn, led to her needing dialysis treatment for the foreseeable future. Ana started on Hemodialysis in 2007 and after a few months was able to switch to Peritoneal dialysis, which has its share of difficulties but is a more manageable form of treatment. After 8 years of being on dialysis, Ana received her first kidney transplant in 2015, which changed her quality of life dramatically. She no longer needed daily therapy sessions that could last upwards of 8-10 hours a night. She was finally free of the catheter that she lived with for so long, and able to freely travel without the worry of having to connect to her dialysis pump nightly. Also, she was able to hold a full-time job for the first time, providing additional support to our small family.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when her transplanted kidney failed in 2020, with her having to re-live the struggle of going back to a daily dialysis treatment schedule. Since then she has had more frequent hospitalizations, including peritonitis that led to a stay in the hospital for over 3 weeks and having to go back on Hemodialysis held 3 days a week for 4-hour sessions at a clinic.
Needless to say, currently Ana and I are in desperate financial need. While she was able to power through working a full-time job from home even after the transplanted kidney failed she was laid off and had her insurance taken away the same month. Since then we've struggled tirelessly just to make ends meet and try and keep a roof over our heads. While I maintain a full-time job, that barely cuts it, she is also on my insurance policy which takes a substantial chunk from my pay. Even through all this my wife Ana remains positive, especially to those around her, does not play the victim and tries to help others regardless of her situation. But with all these persistent and compounding health problems, we have reached the need to ask for help due to the number of medical bills, insurance costs and lack of income. Funds generated will be put towards medical bills, healthcare and improving Ana's living situation.
We only ask of those that can help, and we sincerely appreciate it with all our hearts.
