Analise's Ballet Tech dream
Donation protected
Analise was born with a rare birth defect called gastroschisis. Her abdomenjj did not close during formation in utero causing her intestines and stomach to be outside of her body. She required surgery at birth and was given a man-made belly button, after her organs were placed back inside. Analise spent 6 long weeks in the NICU. As the years progressed, Analise struggled with developmental delays and sensory processing difficulties. She wore orthopedic braces due to toe walking, and had years of speech and occupational therapy. Analise required a 1:1 paraprofessional and ongoing counseling to help with self-regulation from Kindergarten until the end of 2nd grade. Analise, now 8 years old, has made tremendous progress. I share her life story because she has conquered each challenge with strength and determination, and has come so far! This is why the opportunity to attend Ballet Tech is even more extraordinary!
Ballet Tech combines the best of public education and professional arts instruction. It is a small school (grades 4-8) in Midtown Manhattan that includes classical ballet instruction in their school day. They are ranked as one of the best schools in NYC. The audition/ admissions process is rigorous. "Every year, Ballet Tech auditions approximately 30,000 children at 200 public elementary schools across NYC . Approximately 500 of the 30,000 children are chosen to participate in Ballet Tech’s 6-week Introduction to Ballet Program. Children showing the greatest aptitude are invited to return for a second 6-week session. Students who excel in the program are invited to apply to our full-time academic and ballet school" (www.ballettech.org). Analise participated in both sessions and was given the honor to apply to the school as a full-time student. She was accepted and will start in September 2017! Analise is ecstatic and we could not be more proud of her. Ballet has been an important outlet for Analise since age 3; it helps her with regulation, focus, and self-confidence. I believe that having ballet in school will help her succeed academically, socially, and personally.
All children accepted into Ballet Tech receive a full scholarship, however transportation costs are not included. The school does not offer a bussing option but helps to arrange private van service to and from school. Costs are approximately $270 per month, $3000 per year including the summer session. At this time, Analise's father and I are unable to afford this expense (in full). We are extremely grateful for any help from family and friends to make this opportunity a reality for Analise. Thank you so very much! ANY amount is greatly appreciated.
