Hi everyone, this is a page in remembrance of my beautiful mother Anna Maria Torres. To start, this woman was a strong leader and the glue of our family. From her delicious cooking, to her funny stories, to the way she always hosted all traditional family events. Anyone could see that she was the life of the party. A sweet and genuine woman, always thinking about others and putting others before herself. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting my mom, had a conversation with her or just heard about her in passing, this is for you as she touched many souls. I would like to tell my moms story so that everyone who loved her can know what happened and can understand how her unexpected death is affecting my life now. 3 weeks ago, my mother had a bad accident where she fell down a flight of stairs. Thank god I was home and was able to call 911, where paramedics rushed her to NYU langone. The doctors informed myself and my family that she had suffered 8 fractured ribs and a ruptured spleen in which she was internally bleeding. They had to perform emergency surgery on her and remove her spleen. Due to the pain and damage caused from this blunt force trauma, her age and other health issues, it began to then affect her lungs and her oxygen levels. It began to get so bad that doctors suggested a ventilator. My mom was on a ventilator for 2 weeks and was fluctuating between getting better and getting worse. It was touch and go for a while and the wonderful medical team at NYU Langone was updating me as much as possible and doing everything they can to stabilize my mom. Towards the end she began to take a turn for the worst, the doctors suggested that I should make the grave decision to take her off of the ventilator. She was suffering and I did not want to prolong her agony, so I decided to make the right choice for my mom and take her off of the vent. She passed peacefully with all of her family and loved ones around her. My mother was a nurse extender and a certified nursing assistant for 20 years in Saint Francis Hospital. She treated her patients and co workers with the upmost kindness, respect and care. If you knew my mother you knew she sacrificed everything for her family and those she loved. She was so loving, nurturing, generous, and friendly to anyone she came into contact with, she served as a maternal figure for her community. She worked very hard to give me and my son the best life possible, and we are mourning and grieving for her loss. My mother is from El Salvador, and she wanted to be buried there alongside my grandparents, whom she loved dearly. Transporting her body and having a funeral in the United States and in El Salvador is extremely costly, and I am doing my best to financially fulfill my mothers last wishes. Everyone who knows me knows I dislike asking people for any type of assistance, especially financial. However, my amazing co workers have come together to help me out during this difficult period in my life and created this page for anyone else who wishes to do so. With that being said; anyone who was touched by my mothers stories, or who shared a plate, a laugh, a party, or anyone who just wants to show respect, please donate below. It would be much appreciated by my family and I.
