Update: Our beloved Ana has passed away on Monday March 27, 2023. (Hebrews12:11) We want to sincerely THANK all of you who contributed to her home health care. Your contributions assured her a very comfortable and easy transition. (John 14:2) The Gutierrez family was touched by so many of you. May our lord and savior bless all of you for your kind and giving hearts.
Hi Friends and Family, I created this Go Fund Me for my mother-in-law Ana Antunez health care.
She is the mother of three children Miguel Gutierrez my husband, his sister Ana Ainsworth and brother Marvin Gutierrez. A few months ago we noticed Ana was holding her arm, we asked if she was ok and if she had gone to the Doctor. Ana stated that her arm hurt because she fell a month earlier, did not tell anyone and had not gone to the Doctor. I insisted she go see her primary physician. At Ana's primary visit, several symptoms were explained to her physician. The Doctor sent her to have several tests done from head to toe. MRI's showed Ana had a right broken collar bone and torn rotator cuff. The head MRI revealed Ana head swelling on the right frontal lobe of her brain. The very next day November 1st Ana was sent to the ER & was admitted to treat the brain swelling.
After about 7 days Ana was released from the Hospital to then have another head MRI for comparison – appointment schedule December 20th. During this time Ana had gone through Home Health Services and now needed to do Outpatient Rehab Therapy.
On December 1st, her appointment day, I went into her room to awaken her and found her in a full-blown seizure. I immediately called 911 as I attempted to calm my mother-in-law telling her everything would be ok. At that same time, I told Miguel his mom was having a seizure, he ran to her room to see how he can assist her. The ambulance arrived in less than 3 minutes. Ana had 12 seizures by the time she arrived in the ER. Once in ER, the nurses were able to get Ana's seizures under control.
Ana was admitted to Neuro ICU for a few days. During this time she was given another head MRI at that point, a tumor was noticed in the same area of the brain swelling (right frontal lobe). The ICU needed to keep Ana from having any more seizures.
In the next few days the Neurology Team decided that on December 12th, Ana would undergo a Brain Biopsy to determine what type of tumor she had and to see if it was benign or cancerous. Biopsy went well and now to wait...
A very long week later we were told the pathology report had returned but we still needed to wait for the Genetics report to come in because it was more detailed and accurate. The pathology report did show that Ana had a rare Brain Cancer called Gliomatosis Cerebri Grade 2 = Tumor grows slowly but may spread into nearby tissues or recur.
While this was very sad news Ana could be treated with Chemo (pill) and Radiation to try to cure the tumor. The seizures had caused her body to become 90% immobile and we needed to get her stronger for treatment.
My mother-in-law was then transferred to an Inpatient Rehab Facility to now get stronger for her soon-to-be treatments. A few weeks later Ana was discharged on January 9th to come home as we anxiously waited for the Chemo/Radiation Appointment and the Genetics results to return. Another long two weeks later we had a virtual appointment with the Oncologist because the Genetics results had returned. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with Terminal Brain Cancer Grade 4 = Tumor grows and spreads very quickly. Ana was no longer a Chemo/Radiation candidate and was placed on Hospice.
Ana does have health insurance, and it will cover most of her needs. Unfortunately, the in-home care is not covered. Any financial support that you can give with the in-home care expenses is very greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance from The Gutierrez Family.
