Hi, my name is Sean Sunderland, and I’m 77 years old. Until recently, I’ve been blessed with good health and a simple, spiritually focused life. Much of my life’s journey has been dedicated to learning and inner growth—I once traveled overland from the UK to India, following a path of mindfulness and spiritual exploration.
I’ve always tried to live lightly, both in spirit and in the world. Because I’d been healthy most of my life, I carried only minimal health insurance, believing that taking care of my body and mind would be enough. But in August of this year, everything changed.
On August 20, 2025, I underwent open-heart surgery, my first major operation. While the procedure went as planned, complications soon followed. Just two weeks later, at what was meant to be a routine post-op visit, I was rushed to the ER. My left lung had filled with fluid, and I needed a second emergency surgery.
Recovery has been slow and humbling. Tasks I once took for granted now require help, and my stamina is limited. My wife, who has her own medical challenges, relied on me as her primary caregiver—so this has been difficult for both of us. We are currently staying with our family while I continue to heal.
Unfortunately, the medical bills are now arriving, and even with insurance covering part of the costs, we’re facing expenses we simply can’t manage on our own.
If you’re able to contribute—no matter the amount—it would make a real difference in helping us find our footing again. Your kindness will help cover hospital bills and essential living expenses while I focus on getting my strength back.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for any support, prayers, or words of encouragement you can offer. I’m deeply grateful for the love and generosity of friends, family, and kind strangers alike.
With appreciation and love,
Sean Sunderland
