Hello friends and family ❤️ my name is Alyssa and I want to tell you all about some very special people in my life, Ashley and Logan. I have known Ashley and Logan for almost 15(!) years. Ashley has been my person since the moment we met in April 2011 and Logan is the love of her life. I have been blessed to be a part of that love story over the past 15 years. On January 16th, I got a message that broke me into pieces. Logan went to the ER on the 15th and they found a 4.5cm mass. He was told the mass was likely cancer. The next couple weeks were a whirlwind. Confirmed cancer diagnosis, surgery on the 22nd. Follow-ups, more information, more treatments needed. Logan has had to cut back significantly at work. He is a Clinical Social Worker and Mental Health Therapist who works with youth in the Kalamazoo area. His career is his passion, but it is not one that comes with benefits that many of us take for granted. If he does not work, he does not have any income. Thankfully, the family has health insurance through Ashley's job at the hospital, but even with insurance, the out of pocket costs for treatments and appointments are crippling when combined with the loss of Logan's income. They are a young family with two children, ages 7 and 3. They never ask anyone for anything yet are always there if you need them. I am hoping to help them in some small way. I want them to be able to focus on Logan's health and healing instead of worrying about how they will pay their medical bills. There continues to be a lot of unknowns, but the one thing they do know is that there is still a very long road ahead.
