An Ironman for Amelia!

Tax deductible
Amelia Schwartz is our family's miracle baby. Diagnosed shortly after birth with a mitral valve defect that led to regurgitation of blood back into her heart, it was clear that this brave little girl would need an open heart mitral valve repair.

On March 28, 2015 when Amelia was six months old she underwent what turned out to be a successful but extensive surgery which required that she spend 10 days in the ICU and then an additional 4 days on the pediatric cardiac step down floor before she could return home.

Though she was all smiles, it was quite an emotional ordeal for her mom and dad, Nicole and Rob Schwartz, who waited by her bedside as she healed, and through all of the scary bumps in the road!

Today Amelia is a happy, healthy, and feisty little princess who manages to run the show and boss around her parents, baby sister, and even older brother with her strong heart and enormous spirit--and that's all due to the incredible staff at Boston Children's Hospital, and the wonderful support of the volunteer organizations who exist to provide extra care and smiles to these tiny patients and their families.

When our brother, who is known by Amelia and all of her cousins as Uncle Ben, decided to undergo the challenge of completing an Ironman race, (an “Ironman ” is a long-distance triathalon race consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a marathon (26.22-mile) run raced in that order continuously--yikes!) he remembered the care which was provided to Amelia during her stay, along with the support which was shown to Nicole and Rob as truly awe inspiring, and decided that this race could be a great opportunity to do some good by raising funds to assist children going through a similar experience to Amelia's.

And so with the help of his buddies, Amelia's Ironman was born, and these three brave guys: Ben Attella, Steve Amato, and Troy Harrell will be completing Ironman Louisville in order to raise money for Mended Little Hearts , an organization which exists to support families like Amelia's as their little hearts are mended and healed.

Please join us in supporting Uncle Ben and the rest of Amelia's Ironmen as they set out to complete this amazing race to raise funding. Donate whatever you can by clicking the button above! All funds will be going directly to Mended Little Hearts so that other families may be as lucky as we have been to see our beautiful girl come home stronger than ever and with great memories of how very good people can be.

Thank you!
