As you all know, a little more than one year ago, I walked out of prison after serving 31 years, which translates to nearly every day of my adult life. Over the last few years of my incarceration, I dug incredibly deep to change my life. This was the genesis of my transformation.

I promised myself and many of you that I would never again return to prison or my former lifestyle. I’m proud to say that I have and will continue to keep my word.

I have committed my life to helping formerly incarcerated citizens reenter society; I do this through my work as a Reentry Coordinator for (Insight Garden Program) Insight Garden Program

. For those of you that may be less familiar with IGP, we offer a 48-week healing curriculum in 10 prisons built around gardening, eco-literacy and “inner gardening,” as well as a holistic re-entry support program for people coming home.

I’m also a college student at CSU-Fullerton, completing my BA in Sociology.

My life plan and goal is to develop my leadership skills and abilities in ways that will allow me to impact the struggle in service of the Formerly Incarcerated, currently Incarcerated, and poor people. Additionally, I intend to emphasize advocacy for female returning citizens and grassroots gang diversion for young people.

I have been presented with a tremendous opportunity to expand my social arsenal, improve myself and grow my ability to lead through service. As a result, I have been accepted into the (www.healingjusticeliberation.org) Program. After nine months of intense training, I will be a certified Life Coach.

I am extending my hand to each of you, asking for your support in the form of an investment in my leadership–I am raising $2000 to support my year of training (a scholarship from CHJL has generously covered the remaining cost).

The dividends will come throughout my life. The currency will be service and sacrifice with the goal of changing the world, one person and one community at a time.
