An immigrant single mom.

Hi my name is Alexis Tovias I’m a 23 year old immigrant from Mexico. I came to the U.S. when I was 7 with my mom and my two older siblings we were searching for a better life and escaping violence. A lot has happened since we came to America. Unfortunately my oldest brother was deported many years ago now and is unable to help the way an older brother/paternal figure is often expected to in the Mexican culture. My sister is now a single mother working and providing for her toddler. I am surviving in Austin happily trying to build something out of nothing. I often feel powerless when it comes to local govt. especially when they attack women’s rights and the LGBTQIA+ community. I never let that stop me from using my voice and platform to advocate and organize. Which is why I’m setting this go fund me because I truly believe in the power of community.I recently learned that my mother has a non malignant tumor and is going to have to get a surgery to remove it at the end of July . She and I are still immigrants uninsured and rely on local grants and charities that are in place to help people like us but still it isn’t enough to cover the entire expense from the procedure. I will also be taking time off work to help my mom with her recovery. So I ask that you share or donate to help a woman who has done everything she could to help others. A woman who loves her three queer children equally and unconditionally. Thank you so much in advance.
