An epilepsy monitor for Erin
Donation protected
I have started this fundraiser for my friends daughter.
This little one is called Erin and she is 12 months old. She was unfortunately diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome recently and is currently in the hospital with her mum Zara as she had seizures one after the other and was struggling with her breathing.
Dravet Syndrome is a complex form of epilepsy. As well as experiencing severe, difficult-to-control seizures, children and adults with Dravet Syndrome have varying degrees of intellectual disability and a spectrum of associated conditions (known as ‘comorbidities’), which may include autism, ADHD, behaviours that challenge and difficulties with speech, mobility, eating and sleep.
The biggest cause of death in epilepsy is from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). Its the biggest cause of death in Dravet Syndrome, responsible for nearly half of all DS deaths. Sadly, SUDEP tends to occur at a younger age (73% before the age of 11) than in other epilepsies.
I would like to help the family reduce the risk of SUDEP by raising money for a seizure movement detection alarm. It is an incredibly important piece of equipment for the family.
Funds would go directly toward purchasing this specialist monitor/alarm and any excess funds to Zara.
Thankyou in advance for any donations and sharing of this fundraiser ❤️
