An emergency appeal for the people of Lebanon

At the beginning of August, the lives of many Lebanese residents were turned upside down by the explosion of a building containing ammonium nitrate. Homes and places of work have been damaged beyond repair, with poverty and destitution the inevitable result for thousands of men, women and children.
The Lebanese people are welcoming, friendly and charitable. They have provided shelter for refugees from Palestine and Syria for generations. Now is the time when our friends in Lebanon need help themselves.
Refugee Solidarity Group was established last year to help displaced citizens living in designated camps. We have made numerous visits to Lebanon and worked alongside Anera to build relationships over there and make a difference to as many lives as possible.
We've been speaking with people in Beirut, establishing a need for items. At the moment there is a need for tinned food items, personal and domestic cleaning products, medical equipment and new clothing, although not shoes that have been worn.
Our aim is to hire a 20ft container that can be stored and where donations can be made. This will then be shipped to the port of Tripoli, Lebanon and collected by our friends at Anera.
The entire cost of the exercise we feel will be around £10,000. This, however, depends on how generous donors and shipping organisations are feeling. Should goods and services be given free of charge, the overall cost will come down.
Given the desperate situation and current shortage of supplies, we are looking to raise funds within the next month.
If you're unable to donate, but would still like to help, there are other ways of doing so. Do you know anyone that owns and is willing to 'lend us' a 20ft container? Do you have access to pallets of food that can be donated? The same question applies to medical items and cleaning products as described. If so, please get in touch.
