A Lifetime’s Education for 20 Sri Lankan Children

THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION
Education is free in Sri Lanka but the materials needed to help with learning are not. In many areas just getting to school can be a trial in itself. Founded by UK based company, Proporta, The PEF raises money to help talented young people to buy books, pens, uniforms, lighting… even bicycles – whatever it takes to overcome their daily challenges and get the education they deserve.
Where it all began…
Back in 2007, Proporta Directors, Mike and Guy, were on a business trip and met a lecturer at Colombo University who told them a story which stopped them in their tracks. It was about a bright 12-year-old girl who had tragically taken her own life when her family told her they couldn’t afford the writing paper she needed to do her schoolwork. A year later Mike and Guy set up the Proporta Education Foundation (PEF), setting aside some of Proporta’s profits in order to fund the charity. Working with local volunteers drawn from Proporta’s team in Sri Lanka, the PEF now supports more than one hundred children.
Why are we telling you this?
Funds are tight and we need your help. Our 2019 goal is to raise £20,000 which will fund 20 students for their entire academic careers. The tools that the PEF provide may seem very simple, but they truly make a huge difference to a child’s life and opportunities. Even five pounds can go a long way.
