Christopher "TODD" Ozmun(Salem ATO Brother ) had been diagnosed with Severe COPD and Bellous Emphysema.
Todd was diagnosed in 2000 with a collapsed lung he had the upper 1/3 of his right lung removed. Todd was he had Emphysema caused by a gene defect. That defect normally appears in young men in their teens or late 20’s, early 30’s.
On January 15 Todd drove himself into the hospital on January 15 because he couldn’t breathe. he had been working steady up to that day. Todd had been on medicine and controlled COPD for years, but his breathing was so bad he was hyperventilating all the time.
Todd now has an Oxygen concentrator at home and two portable bottles for oxygen (4 hours of oxygen outside the house) when he goes somewhere. Todd has pretty much I have no right lung and little of the left one. Brother Todd can’t do any of the work that he did in the past and the doctor filled out paperwork for the local County assistance agency that said he was permanently disabled. Based on my treatment when he was in the hospital he has applied for full-time disability. Minimum it would take six months if approved quickly for permanent Disability before he sees any income from disability. If he is turned down he will have to appeal and that will take more time.
Todd is basically in last stage emphysema/COPD have an average life expectancy of 3 1/2 years. It’s a minimum of six months before he can get on a list for a lung transplant, that on average only gives 3 to 5 years. todd is in a hard place, and doesnt know how he is even going to pay basic bills without income. Todd doesn't want to lose his house, truck etc.. If he can get through till hopefully he is approved for disability and start getting some money coming in from that he will be OK from that point on. It’s just the unknown between here and there. Todd really didn’t want to ask for help but he didn't what else to do.
What Todd needs are funds to keep him afloat while his disability claims process the prognosis is very grave as he is waiting to get on a transplant wait list.
