Katina Kiourkenidis Burial.Medical Expenses Fund
The Poet Dylan Thomas wrote: “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Catherine “Katina” Kiourkenidis is an unsung hero raging against the imminent and swiftly approaching “dying light.” But not because of old age.
She is a young mother of Alexander and Elena, grandmother of Eva, wife of George, sister of Stavros, daughter of Alexandra and surrogate mother to Stefania and Marcos; and she is succumbing to terminal cancer.
In the shadows of every community are the unsung heroes, the mortar that binds our society’s foundation. Without these noble and caring souls, the rest of us come apart at the seams. We become isolated and unable to participate; we try to fend for ourselves and we quickly become overwhelmed.
Katina is slipping into that goodnight when most have been gifted decades more amongst the living. The world is not fair. But the world can be compassionate.
Katina forgone pursuit of personal glory to be in the servitude of others.
