My name is Ashra Ssenyonga, a mother of a 17-year-old girl battling stage 3 lung cancer. To save her life, doctors in Uganda have recommended life-saving treatment in India. The treatment required to give her a chance at life is a bone marrow transplant currently unavailable in Uganda.

My daughter, Ms. Aliyah Namirembe, an intelligent, charming, kind and loving young woman, has been receiving chemotherapy for Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the Uganda Cancer Institute since last March 2021. Still, sadly, she has not responded positively to the treatment, which has prompted doctors to advise that she seek other specialized medical care in India or the United States. She is suffering from a rare form of cancer called Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which does not respond to chemotherapy and can only be treated by a bone marrow transplant.

The treatment will cost $50,000 in India. I am a single mother supporting two of my children's education in Uganda.

When my daughter was diagnosed, she was abandoned by her father and left to fight on her own. Until now, I have been supporting her financially on my own from Massachusetts. I moved here five years back to begin a new life after escaping from my ex-husband, who abused me for many years. It’s heartbreaking that my daughter is fighting this alone, and the only way I can support her is to provide the necessary funds for her treatment.

My daughter is currently in and out of school. She has a fighting spirit, and despite all the challenges that come with cancer, she has remained focused at school and has faced the situation, so she desires to become an oncologist.

Therefore, I am making an appeal for support so I can send my only daughter to India for treatment. It’s a race against time, and any form of assistance will help to save my daughter.

I am employed by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, but I cannot raise funds alone. I am calling upon all kind-hearted individuals to support me in my efforts to save my daughter. My heart is bleeding for her, and I don’t want her to die.

With timely treatment in India, my daughter will get a chance to live. Please share my pain, and together we can save her life.

I have all the medical records and a referral from Uganda Cancer Institute if someone out there might need to offer help or guidance. I have faith that humanity will stand with my daughter. Faith Sees Best in the Dark.
