An Anthem For George Floyd; a piece by J.C. Brown
Donation protected
I believe GEORGE FLOYD is a BLACK AMERICAN HERO. The preservation and equal recognition of Black Lives has become his CAUSE.
GEORGE and his CAUSE deserve an ANTHEM. AN ANTHEM FOR GEORGE FLOYD
I’ve written one—“GEORGE FLOYD’s BIG BOY BLUES”. WATCH VIDEO HERE
George’s cause has spread and inspired change across nations, disciplines and institutions—it’s creating change within mine, the NY THEATRE/BROADWAY community. I wish to assemble BIPOC talent from within this community to build this anthem so we, the SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIORS marching in the streets, can sing along and celebrate George’s life and the lives of those who continue the work of preserving Black Lives.
This GoFundMe will assemble and compensate BIPOC talent for their contributions. Current participating actor/singers are MICHAEL POTTS (The Wire, Bood Of Mormon, The Prom) JENNIFER FOUCHE (Chicago Tour, Chicken and Biscuits, Half Me, Half You) JONATHAN BURKE (Choir Boy, The Inheritance, Toni Stone), PATRICE BELL (Spike Lee’s 'See You Yesterday', FORA, Serious Adverse Effects), JAMES T. LANE (A Chorus Line, Scottsboro Boys, Kiss Me Kate), incomparable arranger/MD SEAN MAYES (www.seanmayesmusic.com) and film editor OLIVIA OGUMA (creator/editor #TheirTownOurTown short film) to produce this symbol of Black Resistance, Support and Excellence.
The goal is to create a short musical film to disseminate on social media in an effort to create “VIRAL JUSTICE” and keep the cause of eradicating biased police brutality, especially in the upcoming George Floyd case, present within our social and political consciousness.
We plan to release the video the week before the 2020 March on Washington.
If donations exceed the goal, they will be divided between the official George Floyd Memorial Fund and my next short film/"viral justice" choral project for Breonna Taylor.
I hope we are worthy of your contribution. Huge grateful thanks to RODNEY HICKS for making the first unsolicited contribution and inspiring this GoFundMe page. And, Ultimately to the living memory of George Floyd who’s sacrifice has inspired the world!!! AN ANTHEM FOR GEORGE FLOYD
