Help mobilise an Angelman and his mum
Donation protected
This fundraiser was initially set up by my sister a few years ago. She wrote…
“Trish is the sole carer for her severely disabled son and terminally ill husband. To assist Harley and Trish, we are fundraising for a new car with a disability lift/ramp installed, so that Harley and Trish can continue to be mobile together and so they can enjoy this time with her husband, Harley's Dad. The KIA Carnivale is the likely best option for adaptations for a lift.
As Harley is getting older, his balance and physical ability is deteriorating and he is more reliant on a wheelchair. His wheelchair weighs over 25kg and Mum has to lift it in and out of the car on her own. Our Dad Frank has recently been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and has himself become too weak to assist Mum with lifting and moving around. When Mum and I had a recent NDIS meeting, we discussed installing a lift in the car and they said that was doable, however, we would need a new car. Trish asked if would there be financial support for that - in which they laughed and said absolutely ‘no!’”
This short video highlights the challenge of having wheelchair bound disabled adult son. (Yes I am also aware I could have helped rather than film their struggle)
Since this video was made, Dad died and mum is now doing this all on her own. She will be turning 70 quite soon and lifting a chair in and out of a car is becoming impossible.
I, Rhys, Chelsea’s brother am running at the Hackney Half in London this May and using the opportunity to get to the goal she set out years ago. I am sure with the help of kind people in the Northern hemisphere, we can do it.
You can track my running progress through the updates at the bottom of this page to make sure I am not lying. And motivate me a little to actually do this thing. Yes I am being ‘that kind of runner guy’ but I promise I will stop when we reach that goal!
So please, donate and share this to help mum and Harley get through their challenge.
